In Touch

We all make a song and dance about the internet, but in this show a literal one was made, with a poignant message and a sudden ending which said: “You got yourselves into this mess, but we are not privy to your own faults.” A young adult who is king of his online world is unable even to leave his flat when invited to actually have actual stuff with a girl just down his hallway; a paralysed wife is losing her relationship with her husband so finds comfort in a fellow paralytic who is also set free online (“SMILEY FACE!”). The show is imilar to @virtually_real, another show which explored the oxymora of a virtual reality, but this adds expertly-crafted songs among the high emotional state. Some of the songs are beautiful while others repeat the word a single word over and over again to comic effect. The cast are great, and bring the subject to life and use the stage well. Perhaps it ended too abruptly for my liking, but the message hit hard and all involved are to commended for an involving hour. No sad faces here, and it’ll be interesting to see what this lot do next.
